Adobe Connect Account Request
During the fall of 2009, OIRT and Division of Continuing Studies will be coordinating a beta-test of Adobe Connect open to all members of the Rutgers Community.
If you are interested in obtaining a 30-day trial account please choose from the following options:
[All requests will receive a confirming email, and will be completed within 24-72 hrs]
If after 30 days you would like to continue using Adobe Connect, OIRT will remove the temporary status from your account and your account will remain active for F09.
How it will work
When an account is requested, OIRT (for Sakai site requests) or Division of Continuing Studies (for Pearson eCollege or other) will work with the faculty member and Division of Continuing Studies to set up an account in the faculty member's name. If there is a departmental point of contact they will assist in the setup of an account. The point of contact, whether OIRT, Division of Continuing Studies, or a departmental/unit, will keep track of usage and the distinction between 30-day and regular accounts.
All accounts are issued on a trial basis. After 30 days if the requester does not ask that it be continued, the account will be closed so that it may be reused. If the requester asks for it to be kept open, the point of contact will mark it as "permanent" for the semester.
Departments/units will identify a point of contact when three or more faculty members become involved. OIRT and Division of Continuing Studies will work with departments to see that this happens. The point of contact will assist in operational support as new users come aboard, and will help OIRT and Division of Continuing Studies decide which accounts should be continued.
OIRT and Adobe Connect
OIRT will act as the point of contact for Adobe Connect users as long as the department/unit has two or fewer users. When there are three or more users the department/unit will need to identify a departmental point of contact. Faculty will be able to create their own Adobe Connect sessions and the point of contact, whether OIRT or departmental, will help assess departmental needs and assist in providing operational support as needed.
How was Adobe Connect chosen? A small group of faculty and staff worked with Adobe Connect, Elluminate, Webx, and iLinc in the spring of 2009 to assess their respective capabilities. The faculty expressed a clear preference for Adobe Connect over the other three. Elluminate was similar in capability to Adobe Connect and coupling both to Sakai was considered. However, the current Elluminate contract prohibits its use from within Sakai and Blackboard and the additional cost to revise that contract was viewed as unwarranted.
During the Fall 2009 beta-test, the number of session will be unlimited, but the number of attendees in any one session will be limited to 100.
